All around are snow-capped mountains, and on a clear day one can see all the way to Nanga Parbat is one direction and Srinagar is another. It’s a popular day trip from Srinagar to Gulmarg Kashmir, although many people extend their stay or use it as a base for trekking. The road from Srinagar rises gently towards the lower slopes of the range, passing through rice and maize fields.

From the top of Gulmarg Kashmir peaks you can have a view of the valley of Kashmir to 8126 metre Nanga Parbat and other distant peaks. Gulmarg Kashmir, one of the ultimate skiing hot spot for intermediate skiers and professionals altogether is in the western extremity of Pir Panjal, one of the six ranges which make up the world's highest peak Himalayas.

The place gets some of the heaviest snowfalls in India and has earned the distinction of being the best ski resort in the Himalayas. Gulmarg Kashmir is also known for the competitive tournament of skiing in festive season like Christmas and Easter. Tourist from Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many other countries visit and attend the race and enjoy the adventure. Gulmarg Kashmir’s ski resorts are located near one of the best slops for skiing in the world.

Overall Gulmarg Kashmir has a geographic boundary of 3.5 km long and up to a km wide which is about 3-sq-kms in area stands at an altitude of 2,650 metres. Known as Kashmir's premier upland hill resort, the gentle undulating meadows of Gulmarg Kashmir are carpeted in a thick layer of snow. The resort has one T-bar lift, three very modern ski-lifts and a chair-lift.
